Cycling in the local area has become hugely popular.  There are regular organised cycling events but  more and more it is families out for the day enjoying the relative peace of these quite roads and the fantastic views along the coast line.

Origin of Knockderry House

There has been a dwelling at Knockderry for centuries, but the first recorded owner of a property on this site was David Anderson (1793-1879) who had Knockderry House built in 1846 as a summer residence for his family. The following short history was written with the assistance of Mary Blyth a descendant of the original owners, the Andersons.

William Leiper - a Scottish architect

William Leiper is a name famously associated with the architecture of Helensburgh and surrounding areas and was known both as a domestic architect and a commercial architect. Some of his city work includes the Partick Burgh Halls, Glasgow Gas Light Building, the interior of Stirling Library, the Banqueting Hall of Glasgow City Chambers, Dowanhill Church and the Sun Life Building in Glasgow.

It is free to fish but it is illegal to land any migratory fish such as salmon or sea trout.  Boasting 22 lochs and 39 miles of coastline around three sea lochs, Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park offers excellent opportunities for all types of fishing.

Dog Walks and Days Out

When we first set up the hotel we visited some wonderful hotels around Scotland and discovered the joy of sharing these times with our own young dogs.
