Our Candlelit Christmas supper is one of our favourite annual events, and not just because it marks the beginning of the festive season for our team. It is intimate in both number and atmosphere.
We have been holding a candlelit supper in December for two years now, but most of our guests won't know how the evening came about...
Two years ago (almost to the day!) we experienced a power outage on a chilly June evening. We lost power at about 6pm and, despite having no electricity, had a full restaurant diary for the evening ahead. Rather than panic, our team did what they do best - they used every candle they could find to turn the dining room into an ambiently lit space. The result was nothing short of beautiful, and as we watched at our guests enjoy their meals against a backdrop of flickering candles we thought, why not do this again? Rather than wait for a power outage, the Christmas Candlelit Supper was born.
Each year we invite some of our favourite drink suppliers to come to the hotel for a 'Meet the Producer' event. We have had had the privilege of hosting some wonderful suppliers, and the Garden Shed Drinks Co was one of them. A relatively new gin to the market at the time, the two couples behind the company started with humble beginnings - in their garden shed. Two of the founders of the Garden Shed Drinks Co came to the hotel and we served a lunch menu which took inspiration from the botanicals of the gin itself.
Traditionally we have only held a ceilidh at Hogmanay, but over the last couple of years we have extended to include a 'Midsommer Ceilidh' and a 'St Andrew's Day Ceilidh'. The St Andrew's Day Ceilidh, in many ways, is one of our favourite events. We love the combination of good food, great company and Scottish dancing! There is nothing quite like a ceilidh to bring people together.
Unfortunately, for that very reason, it is unlikely we will be able to hold a ceilidh this year, but fear not - our ceilidh will come back twice as strong in 2021!
